Hide and Seek

Roy P. Mackal. Searching for Hidden Animals; an Enquiry into Zoological mysteries. Cadogan Books, 1983.
🔻
Mackal, who heads an institute of Cryptozoology, was in the news a few years ago when searching f or dinosaurs in central Africa; little that exciting in this book however. Mackal plumps for some rather dull but worthy contenders for 'hidden animals'. However it has been a long time since the okapi was discovered, and one gets the feeling that Makal's hopes are pretty forlorn nowadays. Some of the stories have a distinct whiff of the sort of 'Boys Own Paper' adventure story which started: " lt's those damned drums Carruthers, and the heat .. ". Thanks for our own dear Nessie - at least you don't get malaria at Fort Augustus!
